P6 Online presentation with Nicola Pierce
Recently, the pupils of both P6 classes were treated to an online presentation and a question and answer session with award winning author, Nicola Pierce.
We thoroughly enjoyed listening to her inspiration for her creative writing process, her influences and the reference and research she does before writing a new book. Nicola also gave the children advice on becoming an author of the future!
The children have engaged in a local study this school year about Banbridge’s most famous ‘son’ - Captain Francis Crozier, his intrepid voyages and the rich tapestry of his life and naval career. They have also been introduced to copies of Nicola’s latest novel, “Chasing Ghosts,” which tells the tale of Crozier’s frantic attempts to return home from the fateful Franklin Expedition of 1845.
The session with Nicola was a perfect end to our local study which has enhanced our learning in history, literacy and creative writing. We also found it hugely enlightening to engage directly with an internationally recognised author.
This was a real highlight of our school year and we were also extremely proud to have been featured recently in our local newspaper sharing our work.
